NUMBERS IN EACH YEAR GROUP FOR SEPTEMBER 2007
YEAR
Our standard admission number for each year is 60. Where class sizes are over 30 this has been forced upon us by the decisions of the Local Education Authority or the Independent Admission Appeals Panel. The School Governors strongly support class sizes of no greater than 30.
After a successful OFSTED inspection in November 2003 the school undertook a major review. We took note of the key features, both positive and developmental from our OFSTED report. We also took on board the government's exhortation to develop our own distinctive character and build on the talents of our teachers and character of our locality.
We decided, therefore, to move further away from the one teacher one class model of junior school education by:
· Re-organising the school into two phases: Upper and
· Having pupils in a phase taught by all the teachers in that phase with teachers specialising in certain subjects
· Setting classes by ability within their year group for numeracy and literacy
· Maintaining class teacher responsibility for pastoral care and as the first point of contact for parents
· Teaching foundation subjects in year group classes which are mixed ability.
