Extra-Curricular Clubs

The school has a strong tradition of extra-curricular activities.  We are very fortunate to have staff who are prepared to give of their own unpaid time to enrich the experiences of our pupils.  Activities are run before school, at lunch-time and after school.

In the academic year 2006/2007 the following clubs operated:

                       Art

                   Athletics

                   Boys Writing Club

                   Choir

                   Cricket

                   Cross-Country

                   Drama Club

                   Football

                   Girls Computer Club

                   Girls Football Club

                   Martial Arts Club

                   Multi-Activity Club

                   Netball

                   Orchestra

                   Recorder

                   Rugby

At the same time we seek to expand provision by offering paid for private lessons using independent teachers or coaches.  In the academic year 2006/2007 Junior Choir and Hockey was offered on this basis.  There are more opportunities to join in club activities as pupils progress up through the school.  Clubs do not tend to operate in the first and last weeks of term.  Details of times and meeting places are announced in assembly during the first week of term and in newsletters to parents.

When a club has to be cancelled because a member of staff is unavailable, this is also announced in assembly and, if time permits, a slip sent to inform parents.

The school is involved in the Government led School Sports Initiative that offers opportunities and funding to the school so as to allow and encourage the children to become more active through sport both in and out of curriculum time.

School Visits

An important part of our curriculum work involves taking children on visits of educational interest.  Your child's teacher may wish to take the class, or a group of children, out of school during school time for a local visit, i.e. to Chosen   Hill   School , St Andrews   Church , or in the local area to do a survey.  We need your permission for such visits and rather than send you a note each time, we ask that you complete the form at the back of this handbook, which will then cover them for the academic year.  New Year 3 parents do not need to do this as it is incorporated in their admission form.

Pupil Images

From time to time events happen in school that are noteworthy enough to publish photographs on our website or in the local press.  If you feel strongly that you do not wish your child to be photographed for these purposes, please complete the form at the back of this booklet.
