COMMUNICATION

At Churchdown we believe that children gain most from their days at school where teachers and parents enter a partnership and work together to achieve that which is best for the child.

We advocate an open relationship between parents and staff.  If you are concerned about any aspect of your child's education we urge you to come along and see us.  The Headteacher is usually available if you call in to reception.  If he is not, an appointment can be made.  Dedicated parent time is from 8.45am to 9.15am Monday morning and 3.00pm to 3.30pm Friday. Class teachers' time is more restricted, with preparation and daily staff briefings before school and meetings and extra-curricular activities after school.  If you come in after school the teacher will see you if they are available or make an alternative appointment.  You can also phone school reception and ask the class teacher to contact you.

OPEN EVENINGS

These are held each term.  Parents can "sign-up" for an appointment on sheets by calling in to reception or by phone.  Details of dates, times and signing-up procedure are sent to parents prior to each open evening.

REPORTS

Reports are issued twice a year, with an interim report in the Spring term and an end of term report in July.

NEWSLETTERS

Regular newsletters are sent home, keeping you up to date with events in school.  You will also receive a letter from your child's teacher at the start of each term.  This will include:

  • Curriculum areas that we are covering
  • Tests/exams coming up
  • Homework - spelling etc.
  • Reading reminder
  • Any organisational details - PE, paint shirts etc.
  • Any special events - class assemblies etc.
  • Any trips, help required etc.

It is critically important that we have the most recent contact numbers in case of  emergencies.  Please inform the school office of any change of address or contact numbers.  We are also very grateful when parents let us know of any changes in family circumstances which may impinge on a child's behaviour in school, e.g. marital break-up, serious illness or bereavement in family.

Newsletters, past and present, plus other information including diary dates can be found on the school website at www.churchdownjunior.ik.org
