Dear Parents
Seasons Greetings! The finishing line is in sight and now is the time when endless years of training becomes invaluable. Only the fittest will survive as we approach the big day. Then, after the game at Whaddon Road, it will soon be Christmas!
Last week saw most of our children visit the church of St Bartholomew where they took part in a “Step into Christmas” experience organised by our friends at St Andrew’s. Although bus driving commitments prevented me from seeing the various activities at first hand, I heard lots of positive comments about the week’s events from both pupils and staff. Thanks to all those concerned with putting on this reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.
Well done to all our Year 3 and 4 pupils for the splendid Christmas assembly which they performed in front of a capacity crowd in the school hall last Friday. I couldn’t believe the quality and volume that was being produced by only half the school. Tremendous!
The previous Monday we were fortunate to be the recipients of a visit by the King’s School choir during our usual morning assembly. The role models were an example for our pupils to aim to emulate and their performance was much appreciated by all.
Tonight our annual Carol Concert takes place at St Andrew’s Church, starting at 6.00 p.m. I am aware of the clash of dates with Chosen Hill, which is why we have brought the starting time of this event forward by 30 minutes this year. We expect to finish the concert by approximately 7.00 p.m. Seating in St Andrew’s is often at a premium for this event. Doors open at 5.30 p.m. and I might suggest that if your child is in the choir you sit on the right, and if your child is in the orchestra, on the left (although, of course, this is not compulsory). Should you require special provision of access (e.g. wheelchair) could you please let me know by calling school before 5.00 p.m. so that I can liaise with the church to arrange seating. This year’s retiring collection will be donated to the Children in Need Appeal.
Finally, parents and friends of pupils in Years 5 and 6 are invited to attend their Christmas Assembly on Thursday 20th December at 2.15 p.m. (doors open at 2.00 p.m.)
We look forward to seeing you all at one of our Christmas performances and hope that the talent and enthusiasm shown by your children helps spread the joy and warmth of this special time of year.
On behalf of all the staff at CVJS I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yours sincerely,
D A Clough
