Dear Parents
Is it just me or do the days seem to be going by twice as quickly as we approach Christmas? (Or perhaps it’s just twice as much to do in the same amount of time!) If you are like me, you may also have picked up on an interesting facet of child psychology, pertinent to December only, that suggests that children can remember to take chocolate from their Advent Calendar on a daily basis even though they forget to tidy their rooms, bring home school letters and do all their homework. Perhaps we should have homework calendars with tasks hidden behind each chocolate when removed?
Talking of tidy bedrooms, this scenario can provide the ideal opportunity for practice prior to our pantomime in school next Tuesday. You say “Is your room tidy?” They say “Yes it is”. You say “Oh no it isn’t” and I leave the remainder of the dialogue to your imagination. Can I remind you that, as a result of the school significantly subsidising this performance, we are asking parents to make a contribution of just £1 to be brought to school before the day please.
The PTA will be holding a Christmas Cake Sale on Friday 14th December at
(following the conclusion of the Year 3 and 4 Christmas Assembly). You will receive further information from us in due course, but buy raisins, cherries etc. as a matter of urgency!
May I remind you that there will be no choir practice after school on Thursday (6th December)
All classes will be visiting St Bartholomew’s Church next week as part of a “Step Into Christmas” event organised by our local church groups led by Alison Summerskill. We very much appreciate the work of Alison and all the volunteers who come into school on Tuesdays throughout the year to deliver their “Open The Book” assemblies. The children really enjoy these assemblies (they never applaud mine!) and it is good to be reminded of some of the stories from the Bible that lend meaning to our everyday lives.
The SchoolDays film production was a great success and the children played their part as film stars for the day with admirable aplomb. The outcome is a very professional piece of cinematography that, I think, portrays both your children and the school in general in a true light. You will already have received order envelopes with details of purchase options. Final orders will be collected from school on Friday 14th December, with returns in time for Christmas. We will be showing a preview of the DVD (draft version – no sound) on Wednesday 12th December at
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the death, after a long illness, of Mrs Barbara Stephenson. Barbara was a Governor of the school from 2002 – 2006 and her wise counsel was always highly valued. She also worked as a Teaching Assistant, latterly in Year 4, where her sympathetic and caring nature helped encourage and develop all pupils with whom she made contact. She worked tirelessly in supporting the teaching staff in school and was the instigator of our computerised library system. She will be sadly missed.
Yours sincerely,
D A Clough
