Dear Parents
A Happy Easter to you all. How strange to have the two Bank Holiday days outside of the usual Easter break. Evidently it will be over a hundred years before this happens again, so unless I do an Adam Adamant it is certain that I wont be around to celebrate.
Since my last letter, details of secondary placement have been sent out to all parents of pupils in Year 6. If anyone has any queries regarding this aspect, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for the effort you put into dressing children up on World Book Day. I missed assembly that morning, but the variety of costumes was astounding. Where do you get your ideas from? Take a look at our website for pictures of the day.
Staffing News (in brief)
We are currently advertising for a Learning Mentor to work with children and families in our school. We have a dedicated Pastoral Suite which I hope will be well used as a social point when parents visit and as a retreat for pupils as required. The post is advertised on the Local Authority website and will appear in the local press.
Mr Millington will be leaving us at the end of the summer term to take up an exciting teaching post in Egypt. Pupils in Year 6 will be focusing in shape and space in maths next term particularly pyramids!
Mrs Elliott will be retiring at the end of the summer term. We will be sad to lose the services of both of the above who have contributed much to CVJS over the last few years. We wish them well in the future and hope to keep in touch in the years to come. I will let you have more details regarding events and new appointments during the summer term.
Congratulations to:
George Adams, Adam Charman, Jack Mackay and Max Lawlor who represented the school in the Nature Quiz at Grange School recently, and to Bethany Evans, Timothy Baker, Adam Smith and Ellie Dimery, who won first prize at The Kings School, Gloucester Science Fair last week-end. Also to the cross-country runners who represented Gloucester at the County Cross-Country Championships and the boys in the A and B football teams who have qualified for the final of the Gloucester Schools Knockout Tournament. Our Tag Rugby Team won the cups at the Cheltenham Tag Rugby Tournament that involved 48 teams, and our hockey team represented the school in a recent friendly tournament at Plock Court, Gloucester. All pupils involved in these events have received bronze and silver awards.
I am currently looking into the possibility of offering a Year 6 residential visit to France and re-locating our current Year 6 residential into a Year 5 slot. The France visit would be cultural and language-based, as opposed to the PGL adventure nature of the current residential. The estimated cost would be below £300 for a Monday to Friday visit. I would be interested in your initial response to this proposal which, even if approved, would not come into being until September 2009 at the earliest. Please complete the reply slip below to indicate if you are in favour of such a trip.
Should it snow over Easter we will have to reconsider the way our festivals link to the weather. Wrap up warm!
Yours sincerely,
D A Clough

CHURCHDOWN VILLAGE JUNIOR SCHOOL: -Residential visit to France
I consider a Year 6 visit to France to be a good idea and would support it.
I do not consider a Year 6 visit to France to be a good idea and would not support it.
